London 2012 Home Head Journey

Why we’re getting behind Lucy Wiegersma and London 2012.

We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local equestrian, Lucy Wiegersma as she attempts to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.

Lucy Wiegersma trains locally, at the Acquila Equestrian in Warren Farm, Beaworthy. Truro born Lucy has been riding since the age of 5 and at just 34 had already been selected for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games but her horse went lame at the last minute.

“I’m really grateful to Westerly Barnstaple and BMW for their support,” said Lucy. “It’s tough trying to qualify for place at the Olympic Games and it’s a big help knowing that they are behind us, helping to raise funds and awareness. It’s also fantastic having a brand new BMW 1 Series from now until the end of the 2012 Games. There’s a lot of travelling to heats, competitions and promotional events so it’s great being able to arrive there in style.”

John Cass, Branch Manager at Westerly Barnstaple, said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get really involved with the 2012 Games. Our staff and customers are keen to support London 2012 so we’re really happy to be backing Lucy – especially since she is a local Devon resident.”
